Audition Information
You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown brings to life the iconic Peanuts gang in a joyful musical full of laughter, heart, and the timeless charm of Charles M. Schulz’s beloved characters. Originally written and composed by Clark Gesner, this revised edition was updated with new text by Michael Mayer and additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa in 1999.
It’s a bird! It’s a dog! It’s Charlie Brown and friends in the iconic musical that proves sometimes the smallest moments hold the biggest lessons! Whether it’s Charlie Brown’s eternal struggle to be “good” (and not just the “nice guy who always gets the kite stuck in the tree”), Lucy’s wildly inaccurate “psychiatric help,” or Snoopy’s constant daydreams of world domination (in the form of flying a doghouse, naturally), this show is packed with laughs, heart, and a little bit of existential confusion. It’s the Peanuts gang like you’ve never seen them before: gleefully imperfect, absolutely lovable, and undeniably hilarious. From Schroeder's unwavering devotion to Beethoven to Sally's endless complaints about her teachers, this show joyfully reminds us that being "good" means embracing the quirks that make us who we are.

The Cast
Seeking a small, high-energy ensemble of 6-10 versatile actor-singers (18+) with strong comedic instincts and great physicality for the following roles:
CHARLIE BROWN – Baritenor
The lovable underdog, eternally optimistic yet plagued by his own insecurities and a constant string of bad luck. Despite his many setbacks, he never gives up and always strives to be better. Though often the victim of his peers' antics, Charlie Brown possesses a determination that makes him the heart of the story. Strong baritenor with a gift for character acting, someone who can truly embody Charlie Brown’s charm and vulnerability while driving the narrative forward.
LUCY VAN PELT – Mezzo-Soprano
The bossy, know-it-all who doesn't hesitate to express her opinions, especially when it comes to Charlie Brown and her "stupid" little brother Linus. She is unrelenting in her love for Schroeder, despite his complete indifference to her. Loud, brash, and hilariously self-centered, Lucy is a force to be reckoned with. \While a strong voice is key, we want to see the obnoxious side of Lucy shine through in her physicality as much as her words.
LINUS VAN PELT – Baritone
The sweet, thoughtful younger brother who has an unshakable bond with his blanket. He’s the calm center amidst the chaos of the Peanuts gang, often smoothing things over and offering his wisdom (although he’s not immune to Lucy’s teasing). A bit of a philosopher, Linus brings a grounded, earnest energy to the show, providing a perfect balance to the more outrageous characters. Need actor who can play Linus’ more serious and introspective side, while also showcasing his humor. Dance and devised experience is a plus for this role!
SCHROEDER – Tenor
A serious, Beethoven-obsessed piano prodigy who takes life (and classical music) far too seriously for his own good. Despite Lucy’s incessant advances, he remains completely uninterested in her, focusing instead on his music. As a character, he walks the fine line between being coolly composed and hilariously obsessive. Strong tenor (with a little soul) who has deep connection to Schroeder’s love of classical music but can really have fun with Beethoven’s Day!
SNOOPY – Tenor
Charlie Brown’s imaginative and often rebellious beagle. While Charlie Brown thinks he’s the owner, Snoopy constantly proves that he’s the one in charge. With a wild imagination that sees him as a World War I flying ace, a famous writer, and more, Snoopy brings a whole lot of fantasy and fun to the show. Strong physical and comedic actor who can bring Snoopy’s rich inner world to life and use their physicality to sell his hilarious moments of fantasy and dog-like antics.
SALLY BROWN – Soprano
Charlie Brown’s young sister, with a surprisingly complex take on life for someone her age. Often carefree and disinterested in schoolwork, Sally prefers to slide by with minimal effort, though her philosophical rants on topics such as life, love, and the world at large (which are anything but conventional). Though innocent and sweet, Sally can also be remarkably cynical and blunt. Need a comedic actor who can balance Sally’s naïve charm with her quirky, often hilariously misguided wisdom.
ENSEMBLE (May be swings for named roles) – Any voice type
The Ensemble will play a variety of characters in the Peanuts universe, including other classmates, friends, and key figures that fill out the whimsical world of Charlie Brown and his gang. Seeking versatile performers who can cover multiple roles and, in some cases, serve as swings for the named characters. Strong vocal and movement/dance skills.
